Cleaning yoga mat. Hang rather than rolling the mat during storage so that it receives good air circulation. To clean your mat add warm water and a few drops of dish soap into a spray bottle. Wash feet and hands before every yoga session. A good general rule of thumb is that you should clean your yoga mat after every other practice or every practice if it gets super sweaty.
Tips to keep your yoga mat clean longer. Wipe down the mat after every yoga session. To wash your yoga mat start by creating a solution of warm water and mild detergent in your bath. In between these deeper cleans you can make a nontoxic yoga mat spray by mixing a 50 50 blend of nongmo white vinegar and filtered water in a clean spray bottle.
Spritz your mat with the solution then scrub it firmly with a microfiber cloth. Using a microfiber cloth to scrub your yoga mat clean will be the easiest on its materials but the soft side of a sponge or an old cotton tee shirt will work as well. It is recommended to clean a yoga mat with this gentle scrub every few months. If desired add a few drops of your favorite aromatherapy essential oil too.
Finish by draining the water and rinsing your mat in clean water. Allow it to dry completely before storing. Keep the mat away from direct sunlight which can cause it to become brittle.
